Type 2 diabetes is knowingly amenable to diet and lifestyle changes. Reducing obesity, one of the comorbid conditions associated with Type 2 diabetes, has been shown to reduce risk.

Diabetes represents one of the largest costs in our healthcare system. Healthcare professionals often mention lifestyle when discussing diabetes management. Generally, this refers to exercise, diet, and reducing stress.

The ubiquitous word stress is often translated as a generalized sense of angst or discomfort—irritation in everyday functions. Patients use the word “stressed” on a daily basis to convey the etiology of their disease. A disease it is, and stressed they are, but how so?

The link between emotional stress and diabetes was recently the focus of a study conducted at Rice University. (1) The research revealed a metabolic chain reaction that begins with low inhibition—that is, lack of attention control, an executive function of the brain. The subjects who had difficulty with attent...

TIP OF THE WEEK

Homeopathic medicine can be found in most local health food stores and in Duane Reade and CVS! No prescription needed.

NOTE: The indications on the tube are NOT inclusive of the hundreds of symptoms that the medicine is used for. The FDA requires one indication. Consult with your professional homeopath for your specific needs.

Homeopathy Awareness Week (HAW) is a celebration of homeopathy as a patient-centered system of medicine which works! Homeopathy Awareness Week takes place from 10-16 of April, at the same time as the homeopathic community, practitioners and patients, celebrate the birthdate of Samuel Hahnemann, homeopathy’s founder, and the benefits of homeopathy.

During Homeopathy Awareness Week, practitioners across the country organise free talks, or other promotional events, which give you information about homeopathy. You will have a chance to find out more about homeopathy, and hear from patients for whom homeopathy has made a profound difference to their heal...

Passover, celebrated this week,  is the major Jewish Spring festival that commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from Egyptian slavery.

Homeopathic medicine is also celebrated this week as Homeopathy Awareness Week.

What do homeopathy and Passover have in common?

They both commemorate liberation from slavery.

For the Jewish people, they were enslaved by the Egyptian rulers of their country.

They were not able to be free to practice their religion or the lifestyle of their choice. The burdens placed upon them, the yokes, caused untold suffering.

For those suffering under the burden of dis-ease in body, mind or spirit, homeopathic medicine offers a path to liberation . A release from the torments of illness and a return to the freedom to pursue a healthy life.

Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, author of the seminal treatise on homeopathy, "Organon of the Medical Art", describes this liberation as a curative remedy which can bring about a widespread restoration of health to the entire...

What is a Labyrinth?

Councilman Ulrich’s office announced last week the projects that have received funding through his Participatory Budget. I am pleased to announce that my proposal for a permanent Labyrinth to be constructed on Shore Front Parkway adjacent to the Boardwalk won enough votes to be funded!

This project has been several years in the making with a solid manifestation of a temporary labyrinth adjacent to the Boardwalk on Shore Front Parkway and B. 79th St.

The construction of this temporary labyrinth was done on May 5th of last year with the cooperation of Partnerships for Parks and the volunteer manpower of Droga 5 LLC.

While trolling for votes on my proposal for the permanent labyrinth, many misconceptions arose as well as outright lack of knowledge about what a labyrinth actually is. With gratitude to all those who voted for the labyrinth and for those who will be fortunate enough to avail themselves of its benefits , here a...
