Step No. 1 in defense against any invading pathogen is: Be Healthy! Easier said than done. Recent statistics showed 80% of people who make an ER visit have chronic complex co-morbidities. That means they are unhealthy and have multiple diseases at once, i.e., diabetes, obesity, coronary heart disease, and more.
When talking about epidemics and pandemics, those who are immune compromised are the most likely to die. Especially when the respiratory component of a disease is the prevalent factor, as in the case of Corona Virus, pneumonia is lethal.
Panic is generated when there is "nothing " to do for it except wash your hands and avoid public places. The first is possible, the second is not.
I advocate to start with simple self care strategies that one CAN do and can do immediately .
Step No. 1: Get tested for Vit D3. A majority of the population is deficient in this important Vitamin. Known as he "sunshine" vitamin and its role in calcium and bone homeostasis, it is relatively little know...
Character Development+Compassion Decreases Anxiety
Back to school energy evokes an energy of excitement. That experience of excitement is felt, perceived and expressed differently in each person.
There is the energy of anticipation inherent in approaching a new situation. For some, school is a known quantity. It is simply a matter of entering another grade level. If you are returning to the same school, chances are you will have a felt sense of security in knowing the environment, the classmates and the teachers. For others, it will be a first time experience with the unknown factors looming as large as the shadows on the wall at night. They may appear bigger than they are in reality and shadows are inherently scary because they are not well defined images.
Anxiety is a feeling of apprehension, of being out of your element, not on solid ground, fearful of what may happen. Anxiety predisposes us to a heightened sense of insecurity. A state of overthinking can develop that can lead to thou...
“Unless you’re Bill Gates, you’re just one serious illness away from bankruptcy”, Dr. David Himmelstein warns. Dr. Himmelstein is a Distinguished Professor at the City University of New York’s Hunter College and Lecturer at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Himmelstein et al, authored a study, that revealed the ominous truth of the state of health insurance, “Even the best job-based health insurance often vanishes when prolonged illness causes job loss-just when families need it most. Private health insurance is a defective product, akin to an umbrella that melts in the rain,” according to Himmelstein.
In 2014, The American Institutes for Research (AIR) found that only one in five Americans was likely to correctly calculate what he or she owed for a routine doctor’s visit. Fifty-one percent cannot predict their out-of-pocket healthcare costs for 2019 - a troubling finding from research by Alegeus. The same research predicts that consumers will lea...
"Study after study shows that people who are lonely, depressed, and isolated are three to five times more likely to die prematurely than people who feel connection in their life,” says Dr. Ornish.
Dr. Dean Ornish is an American physician and researcher. He is the president and founder of the nonprofit Preventive medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California. Dr. Ornish discovered Ornish Lifestyle Medicine, the scientifically proven program to reverse heart disease. His approach to treating heart disease through radical diet modification and exercise generated significant debate in the medical community.
In 1984 he began the Lifestyle Heart Trial, a controlled study of the effects of a low-fat diet and stress management regimen. In addition to giving up smoking and fatty foods, he included yoga, meditation and a support group.
Dr. Ornish himself suffered from isolation and depression as a young medical student and believes that the s...
Extreme stress can literally break your heart. Research is now clear that major life stressors cause the heart to break, suddenly, or to break down progressively over time.
Sudden heart “attacks” are caused by shocks. Witnessing shocking situations like a car accident, domestic violence, natural disasters or the death of a loved one, person or pet. Hearing of bad news qualifies for a sudden heart attack in some people when they are susceptible. For instance, the shock of a medical diagnosis, the news of loss of person, property, job or financial loss can be enough to “stun” the heart with a cascade of hormones causing collapse of function.
Progressive “ broken” heart occurs over time as the heart muscle weakens from chronic exposure to stress. This happens most frequently in women. Heart disease is the number one killer of women. Sadly, due to lack of research on women, th...
The dog days of August are known for their steamy humidity. We don't realize the toll that this type of weather can take on us, usually because we are in and out of air conditioned spaces throughout the day. Dehydration can occur even without prolonged exposure to the elements.
Sometimes dehydration occurs for simple reasons: You don't drink enough because you're sick or busy, or because you lack access to safe drinking water when you're traveling, hiking or camping.
Other dehydration causes include:
Diarrhea, vomiting. Severe, acute diarrhea — that is, diarrhea that comes on suddenly and violently — can cause a tremendous loss of water and electrolytes in a short amount of time. If you have vomiting along with diarrhea, you lose even more fluids and minerals.
Fever. In general, the higher your fever, the more dehydrated you may become. The problem worsens if you have a fever in addition to diarrhea and vomiting.
Excessive sweating. You lose water when you sweat...
Marriage is a contract , albeit, a sacred one. Vows are taken to love one another. Promises are made to honor and cherish each other, forsaking all others until death parts us.
Negotiations and agreements in ancient times were rounded off with the sharing of salt, as a sign of an agreement that could not be broken. When hesitant about agreeing to a contract with someone , it might be said that the person is “not worth his salt.”
Salt is an important ritual element in many cultures as it symbolizes spiritual nourishment. The covenant of salt in the Bible (2 Chronicles 13:5) denotes a covenant which God cannot break. In this context, salt denotes incorruptibility, as well as permanence in relationships, contracts or friendships.
Marriage is all of these.
In China, salt is used as a symbol of permanence in weddings, confirming the perpetuity of the Union.
In the Roman rite of confarreatio , the sharing of a cake of flour and salt magically transformed them into blood kin, unable to harm on...

Homeopathic remedies (HRs) contain odorant molecules such as flavonoids or terpenes and can lose their efficiency in presence of some competitive odors. Such similarities, along with extreme sensitivity of the olfactory system, widespread presence of olfactory receptors over all organic tissues (where they have metabolic roles besides perception of odors), and potential direct access to the brain through olfactory nerves (ONs) and trigeminal nerves, may suggest the olfactory system as target for HRs. Recent works highlighted that HRs exist in a dual form, that is, a still molecular form at low dilution and a nanoparticulate form at high dilution, and that remnants of source remedy persist in extremely high dilutions. From the literature, both odorants and nanoparticles (NPs) can enter the body through inhala...
This workshop was born from the need of my patients/clients/friends/family/colleagues who fear death, who resist talking about death and who suffer needlessly when end-of-life conversations were never had.
I have designed this workshop to "practice" talking about "it" in a non-threatening way.
My people have found immeasurable comfort, healing, peace, laughter , satisfaction and closure in this process.
